PHILOSOPHY OF MIDDLE SCHOOL EDUCATION

Our philosophy of education is based on the fundamental principle of American democracy, which recognizes the uniqueness and worth of the individual. Therefore, it is our belief that the function of education is to provide for the widest mental, moral, cultural, emotional, and physical growth of the individual, consistent with his/her abilities, and suited to his her needs as a member of our democratic society.

The aims and objectives of the North Cumberland Middle School are:

1. To serve as a vehicle for change from the elementary classroom approach to the specialized subject field program of the high school.

2. To provide exploratory experiences to aid youngsters in selecting a specific program in the high school.

3. To develop effective citizens and fully functioning individuals.

4. To meet the needs, interests and abilities of the specific students in the middle schools.

5. To develop personal responsibility, learning strategy, creative thinking, effective social behavior and effective communication.

6. To teach that each student can learn, that he/she knows how to go about learning and that learning is worthwhile.

7. To encourage communication among students, parents and school.

8. To provide for the individual needs of each student through an effective guidance program.
