To All NCMS Faculty, Staff, Parents, and Students:  NCMS will be starting a new program next year called Positive Behavior Intervention & Support. The goal of PBIS is to establish three positive schoolwide expectations for our students. The following expectations or themes were selected and approved by the NCMS Faculty & Staff; Respect, Responsibility & Ready to Learn. During the next several months, members of the PBIS Leadership Team called Team Delta will 1) meet for training sessions, 2) develop a matrix for each theme, and    3) will collaborate with Faculty and Staff to discuss ideas and build our PBIS program for the 2009-2010 academic year. Click here for a copy of the March PBIS Minutes.

Click here for a copy of the newly released NCMS Expository Writing Rubric, which will be used school-wide in various classes for different assignments. It is intended to promote consistent writing expectations for all our students here at North Cumberland Middle School. In an effort to improve writing school-wide and to meet each student’s needs, the staff will be using a “hamburger” graphic organizer to encourage the students to use an introductory topic sentence, supporting detail sentences, and a closing sentence for each paragraph they write. In connection with the hamburger graphic organizer, teachers from the English/language arts department also created a PowerPoint presentation provided to the faculty. The PowerPoint describes what is expected for each “layer” of the hamburger. In the PowerPoint, a sample hamburger graphic organizer is included along with a sample paragraph based on the details presented in the organizer.
